    Versus

Post by GetMeABowlWoman on Sun May 06, 2012 11:21 pm

Trev posted a thread over in the Blues section of the forums which made me want to throw something up on here.

As I said in the team comments thread, versus is the best way to learn the quirks of this game. I am comfortable playing any position on the ice and I attribute this to my extensive hours of playing versus. Im not saying you have to throw away all your time in versus, but if we are serious about winning a banner, I think it's the best place to start. In versus you have to control the ENTIRE team, not just your one guy. You cant rely on your forwards to score goals for you, nor can you rely on your D to shut them down. It's all on YOU. Trust me when I tell you, it will make you a better stickhandler, better passer, a better shooter, and a better finisher. Most importantly, it will make you better as part of a TEAM.

Im top 300 in the world for a reason - I'm really damn good at it. Im not trying to brag or boast. If you guys want to play me, I can guarantee you'll start picking up things you haven't before.

Just wanted to note that if you don't have your legend card yet that I would focus on getting that first, I ended up getting mine early mostly from OTP/drop-ins. Also if you don't enjoy versus don't force yourself to play it, I've never been big on versus only because I find my hand cramps up during it for some reason. When I was playing alot of OTP and I found some good players that played a good team game, good passing etc, I usually try and add them as friends so when the clubs not on I can play OTP with people I know I enjoy playing with. But when you're the only one doing anything you definitely hone your skills more and the matchmaking seems alot better for versus as well. Bowl has some very good points here but you can still get good practice in OTP if you have good players as friends outside of the club. Probably wouldn't hurt to start friending the guys from the other CS teams to do some drop-ins and what not from time to time.

Also alot of the older guys here probably honed some hockey sense when they were younger before systems had online playing friends, brothers, cousins etc. Alot of glitch goals back then to, circle behind the net was a goal everytime and I remember playing little tourneys at my buddies house where we had legitimate debates whether someone had or had not scored a "swoop" goal. And I'm sure the rest of the Canadians here grew up playing hockey which always helps.

There's probably Americans here who grew up playing hockey as well, didn't mean to be Countryist. How the fuck do I edit my posts so I don't have to reply 3 times, I'm such a douchebag.

Been playing some versus this week. I went up like 10-0, then 14-1. Now I can't win a game to save my life. I dropped like 6 games in a row all by 1 goal. The passing is much harder.
